Hotel Au Coin du Feu – family-friendly summer accommodation in the Portes du Soleil

Are you planning a summer break yet?  This cosy and welcoming chalet hotel is perfect for families looking for summer accommodation in the French Alps. Located a few minutes outside of Morzine, in the Haute Savoie region, the chalet hotel is very close to the Prodains Express lift running up to the dramatic resort of Avoriaz. There are numerous summer activities available in the Portes du Soleil area and Hotel Au Coin du Feu is in an excellent location for families looking to enjoy an active summer holiday.

The views of the surrounding mountains from the lovely terrace are stunning, it is a great spot to relax and soak in the scenery. And, there’s a hot tub to enjoy and relax in after a day out and about.

As well as the rooms in the main hotel building, there are self-catering apartments and chalets in the grounds of Hotel Au Coin du Feu if this is your preferred option.

All the luxury bedrooms in the hotel have en suite facilities, hand wash, hand lotion, and toiletries from Provence. Dressing gowns are provided making it easy to get from your room to the hot tub. TVs and hairdryers are standard in every room as well as a telephone, there is plenty of storage space a real plus for accommodation in France.

I was staying in the Wedding room, a comfortable double room with a four-poster bed and a jacuzzi bath. Framed wedding memorabilia adorned the walls which was a lovely touch. There are excellent room combinations specially designed with families in mind. Whether you are looking for a room for three, four, five, or six people there is an option to suit all needs. All rooms are themed with the majority of the rooms at Hotel Au Coin du Feu being family-friendly.

The spacious Music Room on the first floor is a two-bedroomed suite with a king-size bed and a separate children’s bedroom with bunks. An additional bed is available in the main bedroom, this room comes with a large en-suite bathroom with a bath. The Toy Room on the level above is a duplex family room with a double bed on the lower level and bunk beds and single beds on the enclosed mezzanine floor.

The Sporting Room is perfect for a family of four; with a double bed, bunk beds an en-suite bathroom and a separate en-suite toilet.

The apartments and chalets at Hotel Au Coin du Feu give guests the flexibility to have their own self-contained space whilst benefiting from being able to use the bar, dining room, and hot tub. For children, there is a games room and creche during peak times. The area above the dining room has a warm, cosy lounge with comfortable seating.

Refreshments, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and squash are available in the dining room all day long with fresh milk from the fridge. An afternoon tea of delicious cakes is provided in the afternoon to keep you going until the evening meal.

The hotel breakfast is served in the light and airy dining room. There’s a good selection of cereals, fruit, pastries, yoghurt, cheese, cold meats, bread, and a daily hot option such as frittata or sausages.

For children, dinner is served earlier in the evening, apart from buffet evenings, with adults enjoying a quiet meal later in the evening. The hearty dinner is typically five courses, including canapes, dessert, and a selection of tasty French cheeses, a choice of good quality French wine accompanies dinner.

The staff at the Hotel Au Coin du Feu are exceptional, they are friendly, helpful, and happy in their work. The level of customer service is excellent, staff are able to answer any questions and help guests to book activities and restaurants for the chalet staff’s day off.

The Hotel Au Coin du Feu is somewhere I’d happily stay for a week or two.  It is situated in a quiet, beautiful spot with lovely mountain views. I didn’t drive, as I was on a short stay, but I could easily catch the free bus, from the bus stop nearby into Morzine or the Prodains Express lift up to Avoriaz.

Chilly Powder Hotel Au Coin du Feu is situated a few kilometres from the centre of Morzine. For families, a car is recommended allowing you to explore the area fully. Geneva airport is the closest airport to Morzine, being around an hour and a half by car from the chalet hotel. Car hire is readily available from Geneva airport making it easy to fly out if you prefer this option to a long drive from the UK.

Accommodation at Chilly Powder is available to book for short breaks, or weekends, as well as longer stays of a week or more. I was hosted by the hotel for four nights, which was perfect for getting out and about and exploring the surrounding area.

And, if you are a family that loves skiing the hotel offers great family accommodation in the winter, it is ideal for the Prodains Express lift, there’s even a drag lift adjacent to the hotel keeping walking to a minimum.

Chilly Powder operates year-round, offering active summer holidays for individuals, groups and families looking to experience the stunning Portes du Soleil region.
