Amari Bangkok – a luxurious hotel in the vibrant heart of Bangkok

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Bangkok’s Ratchaprasong district, Amari Bangkok Hotel stands as a beacon of luxury amidst the bustling energy of Thailand’s economic hub. Surrounded by a skyline with towering skyscrapers and lively streets, this dynamic area seamlessly blends modernity with tradition. Beyond its corporate facade lies a world where upscale shopping malls, bustling markets, exquisite dining venues, and chic nightlife hotspots converge, catering to the diverse tastes of business and leisure travellers alike.

Location

Bangkok, the bustling capital of Thailand, is a city that defies definition. It’s a melting pot of cultures, a tapestry woven with old-world charm and contemporary vitality. From its chaotic street markets to its serene temples, this dynamic metropolis offers a sensory journey – a whirlwind of sights, sounds, and smells, a rich infusion of vibrant energy, tantalising cuisine, and warm hospitality.

Bangkok

For three decades, Amari Watergate Bangkok has stood tall in the heart of Pratunam, Bangkok’s bustling shopping and commercial district. Now, as it evolves, it has simplified its name to Amari Bangkok. It is conveniently situated opposite the Platinum Shopping Mall, near Bangkok Old Town and the renowned Erawan Shrine. It provides effortless access to the city’s financial centre and hip neighbourhoods, while just minutes away from Bayoke Tower, Thailand’s tallest building.

It’s perfectly situated to explore nearby shops and markets or stroll to Central World Mall. Historic riverside sights are a short boat or taxi ride, while Suvarnabhumi Airport is about an hour away by cab.

Bangkok

Arriving at Amari Bangkok straight from the Airport, after a long direct flight from London Heathrow, we eagerly anticipated the comfort of this 5-star hotel, which offers a serene oasis amidst the excitement of the city. Its expansive, sleek and contemporary open-plan lobby boasts an elegant urban style with Thai features and a stunning Murano glass chandelier, called the ‘Water of Life’ hanging high above the atrium. Gold tones, marble floors and split levels complete the picture. Here, you’ll also find the Bar Milano and the entrance to the Italian fine dining restaurant Prego.

We were graciously escorted to the Voyager Lounge, an area reserved exclusively for Club Siraa guests, where a personalised check-in awaited us. As we settled in, we were greeted with refreshing glasses of sparkling wine infused with logan juice, setting the tone for a luxurious stay. Throughout our stay, we were consistently delighted by the exceptional warmth and friendliness of the service we received.

You can also enjoy a daily breakfast, served in an exclusive lounge, with a ‘Bubbly Breakfast’ featuring fine champagne, if you are feeling celebratory first thing in the morning. You can also engage in daily activities and workshops in the afternoon, indulge in snacks and all-day refreshments at the snack bar, or, my favourite, unwind with Happy Hour cocktails after a day of exploration.

Our elegant and newly refurbished Club Premier Twin Room was on the 17th floor, it featured contemporary décor in natural hues, with blond wood cupboards, marble stone tops, and natural hessian wallpaper and a pale oak wood floor adorned with a muted patterned Thai design rug. Furnished with a natural teak wood shelf doubling as a desk, the room offers spacious accommodation with two king-size beds dressed in crisp white linen and delightfully comfortable pillows. There is an array of excellent dining options available at Amari. The Amaya Food Gallery is an all-day restaurant offering a market-style dining experience with Asian street food at its heart.

And for something a little bit novel, Le Petit Chef offers an immersive 3D dining experience. Set in miniature scale, Le Petit Chef and companions from Spain, Italy, France, and Japan deliver extraordinary visuals and captivating narratives, crafting an unforgettable mealtime adventure.

Amari Bangkok - ChomSindh

ChomSindh – our first evening led us to the newly unveiled ChomSindh, where we were greeted by a delightful immersion into the world of authentic Northern Thai cuisine, specialising in freshwater and seafood delicacies.

Chomsindh interior

The restaurant’s ambience was a feast for the senses, with its beautifully styled interior featuring dark hardwood floors and wood-panelled walls adorned with shuttered doors and fabric panels. The seating arrangements were equally inviting, boasting petrol-blue leather banquettes and upholstered chairs accented by scatter cushions in earthy tones of blue and terracotta. The open-plan kitchen offers glimpses of culinary magic in progress, while glazed stoneware pottery crockery completes the aesthetic, enhancing the overall dining experience.

Embarking on a gastronomical adventure, we savoured goujons of deep-fried grouper with a sweet and spicy sauce, the signature old-fashioned stir fry with prawn and holy basil, known as Nareekansaeng, which delighted with its rich flavours and aromatic basil.

The delicious, steamed sea bass, was accompanied by sticky rice and a tangy ginger, chilli, and lime sauce, which was freshly made at the table with a pestle and mortar, a real treat! For dessert, traditional tropical fruits in citrus and kaffir lime syrup alongside Thai steamed coconut milk custard were a perfect conclusion to our flavourful journey.

Nila – We were sorry not to be there for the opening of Nila, which was due to open its doors very shortly. We had a peek at the stunning new restaurant floor. We met with the Head Chef who enthusiastically talked about their plans to embark on a culinary voyage through India’s coastal regions, where vibrant spices meet Portuguese influences.

Amari Bangkok Milano Bar

Bar Milano is a swish cocktail bar at the heart of the hotel that serves everything from coffee to wine, beer, soft drinks, and cocktails, glamorously dressed staff add to the charm and it is well placed for watching the comings and goings in the open plan lobby area. Alternatively, if you fancy lounging outdoors, the Pool Bar is perfect for a post-swim or a workout boost – providing chilled drinks, juices, smoothies and snacks

Club Siraa Lounge

Breakfast is one of my favourite meals when I’m staying in a hotel, and at Amari, it didn’t disappoint. It’s served at the Amaya Food Gallery or if you are a Club Siraa guest you can enjoy a splendid breakfast and immaculate service at the Club Siraa Lounge on the 9th floor, designed with modern flair and traditional Thai touches.

The lounge is open throughout the day, serving delectable snacks, and later for Happy Hour, ensuring you won’t go hungry or thirsty. This was a lovely addition to our stay. Perfect for afternoon tea, or early evening cocktails and snacks after a day exploring the city.

For relaxation, guests can retreat to the tranquil Breeze Spa, a sanctuary of rejuvenation offering a host of lavish treatments. I experienced an indulgent 60-minute Signature Mood Massage. On arrival, I was brought a small tray with a cool cleansing face towel and a cup of steaming hot tea, served with dry fruit and nuts, before my feet were gently bathed in flower water. Then an hour of traditional Thai massage, utter bliss, and perfect for melting away tension and fatigue, especially after my long journey.

The hotel has an impressive garden, also on the 8th floor, it’s complete with an in-house kitchen garden yielding fresh organic herbs and vegetables, which adds aroma and a touch of greenery.
