If you are looking for superb self-catering accommodation in a ski-in ski-out location, why not consider the luxury Pierre et Vacances apartments in the pedestrian village of Arc 1950?

These comfortable and spacious apartments are in an ideal position to explore the ski resorts of Les Arcs; Arc 2000, Arc 1800, and Arc 1600 as well as the wider Paradiski area spanning from La Plagne to the village of Villaroger a huge ski area of 425 kilometres.

Arc 1950 Place de l'horloge

Arc 1950 is celebrating 20 years since it opened in 2014; the village was designed to be a self-contained resort with every facility needed conveniently at hand close to the accommodation.

For me, working in Arc 1800 for the winter season, staying for a few nights in Arc 1950 was an ideal opportunity to experience the Pierre et Vacances accommodation first-hand. It gave me a better understanding of Arc 1950 and where our guests were staying.

Arc 1950 Hameau du Glacier reception

A short shuttle bus up from Arc 1800 and I was in Arc 1950. The residences are easy to get to each with its own style. I was staying in the Hameau du Glacier in a one-bedroom apartment. After a warm welcome from reception I went up to my apartment.

Arc 1950 apartment living room

My first impression was how spacious the apartment was, it was big enough for a family of four with a cosy bedroom with a double bed, and a sofa bed in the living area that could be used as a bed too. There was a separate toilet and a bathroom with a bath and shower attachment. The main living room was large enough for a good-sized table and ample seating, with a sofa as well as several chairs.

From the small balcony, there was a lovely view down to the central square as well as the surrounding mountains. It is a perfect spot to stay and enjoy being on holiday in the mountains.

Everything has been thought of to make your holiday comfortable and stress-free. The kitchen is well equipped, with a small dishwasher, fridge, hob with four rings, and a combination microwave. A kettle and a coffee pod machine as well as a toaster help to make you feel at home. All you need is readily to hand with plenty of crockery, cutlery, and a good selection of pots and pans.

Towels are provided and the bed is made up and ready to use, great for French holiday apartments where they often expect you to bring your linen or pay an extra fee. A small kitchen kit with sachets of salt, pepper, tea bags, sugar and instant coffee helps when you arrive after the supermarket has closed.

Each residence in Arc 1950 Le Village has its own facilities, the Hameau du Glacier has a wellness centre in the building with a hammam and sauna, and outside is a small pool and jacuzzi – robes and slippers are neatly placed in the apartment ready on arrival.

The apartment I stayed in had a warm, rustic feel with a chalet-style bedroom and a sloping ceiling with a skylight. The theme of the Hameau du Glacier was inspired by a local mountain resident, Antoine, from the Les Arcs Hameau who travelled around the world and built his own house based on wooden dwellings he had visited, the bright furnishings throughout the Hameau du Glacier reflect his experience of colourful European cities.

Secure lockers with padlocks are situated at the exit to the residence, ideal as this exit opens onto the piste going through the centre of the village.

In the modern world, the internet is something we have come to expect as given whenever we travel; WIFI in Arc 1950 Le Village is provided with a good download speed.

Deep Nature Spa Arc 1950

Nonskiers can take the free Cabriolet gondola to Arc 2000 or use the free bus shuttle service running between Arc 2000 and Arc 1600, for Arc 1800 there is a bus change at 1600.

In addition to the wellness facilities within each residence the Deep Nature Spa, located in the Les Sources de Marie building offers a luxury spa experience with treatments, a stunning pool, Nordic hot tubs with a mountain view, steam rooms, and a cosy relaxation area. The Deep Nature Spa is a lovely retreat after an active day on the mountains or when the weather closes in, all the apartment buildings in Arc 1950 Le Village are accessible through the underground car park so you don’t have to venture out into the cold. For the ultimate convenience in self-catering accommodation in the Tarentaise region, Huski offers a food delivery service – ready for you on arrival at your apartment. This gives you everything you need to get out on the slopes as soon as possible when you arrive in the resort late in the evening.

Huski welcome delivery box contents

I sampled a delivery that was waiting for me when I arrived at my apartment. Neatly packaged in a sturdy box were enough essential provisions to last me for a few days. There was fresh milk and butter, Tea bags, filter coffee, pain au chocolat, oats, jam, a box of eggs, and a bottle of rose wine from Provence. There was a selection of freshly made meals that just had to be heated up, with clear instructions on the packaging. I tried the roast potatoes, buttered peas, and boeuf bourguignon for a tasty and nutritious supper.
