The Hux Hotel and Bar is situated in a four-storey townhouse on Kensington High Street. This funky 4-star contemporary hotel is directly across the road from Kensington Palace and Gardens, which sits within London’s beautiful Grade I-listed Hyde Park. There are a wealth of shops on the high street, vibrant nightlife, the iconic Royal Albert Hall and some of London’s most renowned museums including the Victoria and Albert, the Natural History and Science Museums are just a short walk away in South Kensington.  The area has excellent transport links enabling you to get effortlessly around the city.  That makes Hux Hotel the perfect affordable boutique hotel stay in the heart of London for visitors or staycationers alike.

Hux hotel has 24 rooms and our superior double room looked out towards Hyde Park. Vibrant and stylishly decorated with deep turquoise painted walls, brightly coloured cushions, a mustard-coloured velvet cocktail chair, a magnificent rubber plant, modern prints on the walls and arty coffee table books give it a lux feel.  The super comfortable double bed was dressed with pure white soft Egyptian sheets, so along with the fully soundproofed windows and black-out blinds, we had a dreamy night’s sleep.

Ideal for groups of friends or families wanting to explore London.

Once we had settled in, we made our way down the stairs to the opulent and fantastical bar and lounge area, which in keeping with the hotel theme, adds a touch of David Lynch with a deep rich colour palette – midnight blue walls, velvet sofas, film style posters, festooned with tropical hanging plants and taxidermy of ethically sourced animals – with everything from zebras to peacocks!

The bar specialises in tequila, Japanese whisky and house blend vermouths. The barman will happily knock up your favourite cocktail, I chose a classic gin Martini or you can opt for one of the Hux Signature Cocktailswhich of course we also wanted to try out… The Parrot was akin to a rich and smoky Negroni…a combo of Mezcal, coffee-infused Campari and chocolate bitters, garnished with orange peel with the Hux signature burnt into it.

Smoked by Colonel Coke was a heady mix of cocoa butter fat washed Johnnie Walker, genmaicha tea-infused vermouth, tonya maple syrup…similar to an Old Fashioned. Swinging with Michael was Hux’s take on a Pina Colada with a monkey hanging on the straw, Kraken spiced rum, cachaca, Coco Lopez, banana syrup and coconut water.

Hux Hotel doesn’t have its own restaurant but they have an excellent sushi menu which is delivered and brought to your table. We had the Grand Master platter … an absolute feast of freshly made dragon rolls, salmon tataki spring, fresh salmon rolls, French touch rolls, yellowtail ponzu rolls and edamame.

But the night was still young at Hux.  The tables started to fill out with a young crowd in anticipation of The Live Lounge which runs each week, from Wednesday through to Saturday from 9.30 pm, presented by musician Baldo Verdu and guest performers. We enjoyed a great evening of cocktails and sexy, sultry Latino pop.  This is definitely a decadent hot spot for those in the know.

Breakfast is ordered via the Suite Pad, and continental or cooked breakfasts are brought to your room via the friendly and amenable staff. We had Eggs Benedict and Eggs Royale washed down with fresh coffee – the perfect start to our day.
